Salford’s stationary space station
Prior to the demolition of a 1960s science and engineering faculty we carried an extensive legacy management project with more than 40 visits over 4 months.
We surveyed every item, integrated data into Revit and produced specialist technical equipment surveys with each directorate and for the project M&E team. This was an initial 10 day survey for a 4 man team cataloguing loose assets including furniture, oscilloscopes, sound recording equipment etc.
The next 2 months were spent conducting specialist equipment surveys including robotic arms, supersonic wind tunnels, anechoic chambers and optic lasers. A final month saw us help produce Revit drawings for the project Mechanical & Electrical services team. These showed in 3D the access and maintenance zones and service connections for over 400 pieces of equipment – vital for the design of their next home.
This was a huge technical project, and the sheer size of the building meant the surveys were a huge task.
The team worked unsociable hours (3pm – 11pm) to minimise any disruption to the students and staff and we needed to carefully coordinate and arrange access with the busy professors.
